The latter, Presence, is particularly what you will want to focus upon – it’s not just about good technique, but about being in complete control of the situation. You can demonstrate this by your body language in particular:

Once you have responded appropriately and decisively to the in-bound attack, pause for a moment to survey the damage before returning to your starting position; Your gaze should reflect this – a look that communicates that you have all the time in the world, and that you are choosing precisely what damage to inflict upon the attacker; Similarly, having a range of responses to choose from in your responses – some simple, some more complex, and using a range of different styles.
